Almost 20 years of hard work by hundreds of physisist have made this machine and dream come true. Last Monday, the LHC has presented its first high-energy collisions to the scientific research. The newly invented data will give us an unexampled tool to understand the Universe where we live in. They have done it!

It was only two weeks ago that we were getting excited about the Large Hadron Collider preparing to smash some serious atoms, but the CERN announced that it will be shut down for a year for safety issues. But Monday, at 13.06 hour, The first high-energy collisions were achieved at all four points of the LHC ring. The final stage occurred after a few efforts at injecting and ramping beams in the morning. Before the collisions, there was a substance of exhilaration, expectation, fear and apprehension in the CERN Control Centre. Nobody had ever tryed to make two proton beams collide at 3.5 TeV before. Only Nature produces collisions like this habitually, in the procedures that output cosmic radiation, but in a way that makes it very hard to draw out significant data.

The LHC is such a complex machine, thousands of components that have to work without failing and hundreds of controls to ensure smooth operation. Surely when all the experiments confirmed the first collisions, the operators took the long breath of relife. This milestone points well for the long physics run in the lead of us.
