It was Sunday, March 7,2010 – The Academy Award Evening. The starred Kodak Theater was anxiously waiting for the announcement for the best director of 2010. And the announcement came with a bang – David won the battle over Goliath. “The Hurt Locker” was declared as the winner over Steven Speilberg's film “Avatar”. With big applause Kathryn Bigelow, the first woman to ever win Best Director, put her steps on the red carpet. The low budget film “The Hurt Locker”, based on the life of American bomb difusers in Iraq, won in 6 categories which includes Best Picture, Best Director,Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Film Editing.
The film reveals the psychological duel and humanitarian faces of the American soldiers in Iraq. The film has some heart touching scenes. The bomb disposal scenes will actually not make you feel thrilled but make you feel the tireless effort of officer William to save a life. Other than those touching scenes, the film has hardly any material to tie up in your seats. It can be considered as a well directed neat film which deals with the American soldiers' mental states rather than their triger happy attitude. And that essence have made the film “The Hurt Locker” a little different from the other war films.
Superb film making technique
Combining intellectual and humanistic disciplines with an ambition of gut-wrenching, viscus action, To me The Hurt Locker is unquestionably one of the best films in 2009; it is also a great movie of full of excitement and thrilling, action, graveyard comedy, and superb film making technique.
